Of Wheatfield NY passed peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Mount St. Mary's Hospital Lewiston NY. 

He was born in Meadville PA on November 12, 1933 the son of the late Joseph and Josephine [Damico] Portfilio.

Mr. Portfilio graduated from Meadville High School and Gannon University in Erie PA.  Anthony later received his Masters of Science from the University of Buffalo.  He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War as a Hospital Corpsman. 

In 1961 he moved to Sanborn, where he started his family and teaching career.  He taught Science and Health at Payne Junior High School in North Tonawanda, before his retirement in 1990.  Additionally, he served as a US Immigration officer from 1967 until retiring in 1995.  Mr. Portfilio was a member of the Tri Community Ambulance Services and the Knights of Columbus.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a smile to his face.  As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed boating, fishing, and hunting.  He loved cooking, and gardening was his forte. 

Mr. Portfilio is survived by his children Joseph, Mary Elizabeth (Louis) Knotts, Anthony Paul, Paul Jerome (Renee), and Stephanie (Jeffrey) Moore, his grandchildren Douglas (Kelly) Knotts, Sarah (Brandon) Leone, and Emma Knotts, Jack and Abigail Portfilio, Giuseppe Portfilio, Julia, Joshua, Matthew, and Jonathon Moore and his great grandchildren Molly and Bradley Knotts, and Ava Grace Leone.  Mr. Portfilio is also survived by his former wife Helen (Prusnak) Portfilio, two sisters Frances (late Donald) Hatheway and Christine (Larry) Kowalski, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.   “Butch”, as he was referred to by many, was the brother of the late Maryann Feltenberger and Ernestine Paulson. 

Funeral services with Military Honors will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.
