Dorothy M. (Printup) Winden

Dorothy M. "Dolly" Winden, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Sunday December 1, 2013, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence.  She was a member of the Tuscarora Nation, Deer Clan, born in Niagara Falls, NY, on August 21, 1943, the daughter of Dorothy M. [Hill] Printup and the late Murray Printup.

Mrs. Winden graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School, Erie County Technical Institute, Niagara County Community College and from the University of Buffalo. She was a registered nurse in the Intensive care unit at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for many years and later became a Nurse Practitioner on the Mohawk Reservation for two years. Mrs. Winden had dinner with Governor Nelson Rockefeller as the New York State Indian Princess representing the Tuscarora Nation in the early 1960's. She was an award winning artist in Iroquois raised beadwork, displaying her work throughout the country. Mrs. Winden was an avid Jazz enthusiast, attending concerts and festivals around the area.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and wintering in Fort Myers, Fl.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband of 46 years, E. Dean Winden, one son Brian J. (Lisa) Winden of Rochester, MI, one daughter Julie A. Winden of Lewiston, NY, two grandchildren Thomas and Madeline, a brother Murray "Clem" Printup. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where a prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Tuscarora Baptist Church,  2208  Mt. Hope Road, Sanborn, NY, with the Rev. Walter A. Printup, Jr.  and  Rev. Donald Robinson officiating.

Memorials may be made in her name to Roswell Park Cancer Institute or to Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence.

Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery on the Tuscarora Nation.
