Frank J. Scherber of Grasonville, Maryland, age 88, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 24, 2017 in Centreville, Maryland.  The son of Francis A. Scherber and Edith M. Scherber, he was born on October 16, 1929 and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. He was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. 

Frank was a devoted husband to his wife, Shirley A. (Mackenzie) of 57 years and a loving father to their children. He is survived by his daughters: Debbie A. Lyman (Scott), Terry L. Goodman (Tod), Laurie J. Jaindl, and Gay M. Scanlon (Thomas). He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. Scherber in 2008, and their two youngest children, Jill E. Boswell in 2016 and John ‘Jack’ F. Scherber in 2017. Frank was a proud Grandfather to nine grandchildren and Great Grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. 

After serving in the U.S. Navy, he was hired by The Olin Chemical Corporation and worked as a Plant Manager and Director of Safety, where he later retired after 37 years of employment. Following retirement, Frank began a hobby and discovered he had a talent for the art of waterfowl carving. For 25 years, he was known to his customers as ‘Mr. Frank’, creating many beautiful wood carvings, as well as participating in multiple local art exhibitions on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Frank was a member of St. Christopher’s Church in Chester, Maryland. He had a warm and loving heart, and the ‘gift of gab’. He was greatly loved and will be missed immensely by family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 26 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD from 4 – 6 pm, with prayers at 5:30 pm. 

Interment will follow at 10 am on Saturday, October 28 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston, NY.
