J Albert Rohrer

April 19, 1923 ~ August 6, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

J. Albert Rohrer, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Lewiston.   Mr. Rohrer was a longtime resident of Youngstown, NY along with his loving wife of 46 years, Jane (Davison), who predeceased him in 2000.  Albert was born April 19, 1923 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Carl J. and Pauline (Lynch) Rohrer.

He graduated from Niagara Falls High School and attended Notre Dame University until he was drafted, and then trained at New York University as a meteorologist and later as a paratrooper in the 81st Airborne Division at Fort Benning, GA.  Following the cessation of WWII, he served as a First Lieutenant of the Army of Occupation in Japan.  Post-war, Albert completed his undergraduate studies at Lafayette College in Easton, PA and received his Masters Degree at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA.

Albert was affiliated with his father in the Rohrer Electric Co., Niagara Falls, NY for many years.  He retired to pursue his many interests including woodworking and an extensive stamp collection he started as a young boy.  He was also a longtime fan of the Minnesota Twins baseball team, and he had a special passion for the study of history, particularly the era of the French and Indian War. He and Jane made many road trips to visit historical sights and forts. Albert was an avid reader, and could be counted on to accurately give information to any query, no matter how obscure.  An active member of St. Bernard’s Church, he served there as an usher for many years.

Mr. Rohrer is survived by his sister, Elizabeth R. (Richard) Reddy, of Westlake Ohio, nieces Eloise Reddy (Paul) Donofrio of NYC, Paula Reddy (Marc) Schwerd of Holmdel, NJ, and nephew Richard L. Reddy, Jr. of Capitola, CA, great nieces Elizabeth and Katharine Donofrio and great nephew Joshua Schwerd.  Mr. Rohrer was predeceased by a brother, Carlton J. Rohrer of NYC. He will also be missed by a niece through marriage Joan (late Terry) Davis of Lewiston, NY, great niece Amanda (Mike) Buonopane of Niagara Falls, NY, great nephew Jeffrey (Corinne) Davis, of Lewiston, NY and great great nephew and niece Max and Vivian Davis.

The family of J. Albert Rohrer wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Lewiston where Albert was a resident since October 2013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
