Jacquelyn A. Young

July 8, 1930 ~ March 19, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away on  Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Northgate Health Care Facility, North Tonawanda, NY.  She was born in Cleveland, OH on July 8, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward and Elise (Thompson) Schimmelman.

Jacquie attended local schools and Bacone College in Oklahoma.    She was a cook at various restaurants in the area and later was employed at Carborundum for several years.  Jacquie was an active member of the Sanborn American Legion Auxiliary 969 and served as the President of the Niagara County American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Pekin Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Sanborn Historical Society.

She was involved with the scholarship program at NCCC through the Home Bureau and with the Peter Doctor Indian Scholarship Foundation and the Girl Scouts.    Jacquie loved to cook and was famous for her pies and breads and also enjoyed doing crafts, needle and bead work.

She was the widow of Robert  Young, who died in March of 2006.  Jacquie is  survived by two daughters, Marie (Ralph) Walke and Gwendolyn King, two grandchildren Michael (Jenny) Walke & Terese (Guy) Hanson, four great grandchildren Cody & Emily Walke, Marissa & Brandon Hanson and her godson Roger Clark.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Hope United Methodist Church, 2914 Upper Mountain Road, Sanborn, NY, with Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating. 

Memorials may be made in her name to the Hope United Methodist Church or to the Pekin Fire Company.

Arrangements were made through the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Sanborn, NY.

Inurnment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
