John B. Knox, Jr.

John B. Knox, Jr., of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence.    He was born in Cleveland, OH, on March 31, 1921, the son of John B. and Emma [Carr] Knox, Sr.

Mr. Knox moved to Sanborn with his family in the early 1930's.    He attended West Street one room school and graduated from LaSalle High School and later from the University of Buffalo.

Mr. Knox served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds that he received and the distinguished service medal.

After the war, he became a Physical Education Teacher with the Buffalo School District, teaching at Schools #71 and #75 and also taught the blind and handicapped children for over 30 years before retiring. He also ran the family owned Knox Insurance Agency for many years which was started by his father.

Mr. Knox was a member of the Sanborn American Legion and the Sanborn Fire Company.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing hockey.

Mr. Knox is survived by his wife of 69 years Helen [Cindrich] Knox, two sons John B. (Deborah) Knox, III and Kevin (Suzanne) Knox, two daughters Cheryl (William) Jaback and Sharon (Sean) Deuby, three grandchildren Jessica (Craig) Axford, Jennifer Knox and Connor Deuby, also many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Edward J. Knox.

His family will be present on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating.

The Sanborn American Legion will be having a service Thursday at 7:00 PM.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to the Western New York Heroes or to Niagara Hospice.

Interment with military honors in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria, NY.
