Mildred Reeves Obituary

Mildred K. Reeves, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in Northgate Health Care Facility. She was born in Niagara Falls, on September 19, 1919, the daughter of the late James T. and Sarah Ann C. [Reed] Cook. 

Mrs. Reeves was employed at Bell Aircraft during World War II, the Carborundum Co., and as a Teacher’s Aide at Lewiston Porter.  She retired from the Niagara County Department of Social Services in 1997 after 17 years working as a senior clerk.   

Milly was an active Lewiston Porter community member.  She was a charter member and volunteered with the Lewiston Porter Community Ambassador Program for 55 years serving both on the Executive Board and as Executive Secretary for 25 years.  She also served on the Lewiston Porter Continuing Education Committee for many years.  


Milly was actively involved with Niagara County Girl Scouts for 51 years serving as a Brownie and Daisy Girl Scouts leader, Service Team member, associate chairperson and delegate. She attended many National Girl Scout conferences throughout the country and received the distinguished “Thanks Badge” as well as other service awards.  Milly traveled to Switzerland where she stayed at the Girl Scout World Center Swiss Chalet. 

 
As a member of Mended Hearts, Inc. (Support Group for Heart patients) she served as president and Newsletter Editor of Mended Hearts Chapter #209 for ten years.  Milly attended many Annual Conventions with delegates from other chapters throughout the country.  She participated in the Visiting Program at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital for new and recovering heart patients. She also continued internet visiting with patients through the National visiting program.  

Mrs. Reeves loved to travel across the country with family and friends as a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association and with the Girl Scouts.  She traveled with the Girl Scouts to Europe, visiting England, France, Germany, and Italy.  Milly also took several cruises throughout the world. Mrs. Reeves was a roller skating dance instructor; enjoyed playing Bocce, Fantasy Football and was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan. 

She was the wife of the late Clarence L. Reeves. Mrs. Reeves is survived by one son, David (Claudia) Reeves and four daughters, Barbara (Richard) Ries, Nancy Torkewitz, Laurie (Larry) Yaw and Pamela (Sean) McCormick.  She was the mother of the late Karen (Roger)Sager and Sandra Reeves. Milly has fifteen grandchildren: Linda Velott, Debbie Ehret, Alicia Reeves, Kristen Cincotta, Daniel Sager, Patty Hicke, Jenny Winstanley, Richard Ries III, Robyn Fink, William Torkewitz III, Jeffrey Torkewitz, Jayme Grubb, Shannon Walker, Tim McCormick and Kevin McCormick.  She also has fourteen Great-grandchildren. 

Her family will be present on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 4-8 PM, at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev.  James K. McGinnis officiating.

Interment in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria, NY.
