Dawn L. "Sue" Gates

October 9, 1949 ~ September 30, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old


Of Sanborn, NY, passed away on  Saturday, September 30, 2017, in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. 
She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 9, 1949, a daughter of the late Howard and Louise [Hanson] Walker.

Sue graduated from Niagara Falls High School and from the Trott Vocational High School in the Adult Nursing Program.   She was an LPN  at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Hospital and later with the Niagara Wheatfield School District for 21 years, where she was a wealth of knowledge and compassion before retiring in 2010.

Sue was active with the Girl Scouts, where she served as the Service Unit Director for all the troops in Niagara Falls and was the camp nurse at the Niagara County Girl Scout camp. She was a member of Toast Masters, the Red Hat Society and served as the Home School Treasurer at St. Stanislaus School and was a room mother for  all of her children.

Sue was known for her love and devotion to her family, as well as her kindness and generosity, there was nothing she wouldn't do for anyone.   She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and lunches with her children Laura and Shawn as well as traveling to Florida to visit her daughter Patricia.

Sue was the wife of 38 years to the late  Patrick C. Gates, who passed away on May 27, 2015.  She is survived by two daughters, Laura (Peter) Bloomingdale and Patricia (Jason) Maier, one son Shawn (fiancé Deborah McMicking) Gates, three grandchildren Dawn, Brandon and Alyssa Dolan,  a sister, Carol Springer, three brothers, Kendall, Daniel and Edward (Penny) Walker, also many nieces and nephews.   Sue was the stepmother of the of the late S. Sgt. Scott A. Coe and sister of the late Howard Walker and Fae Ramierez.

Her family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. 

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 4671 Townline Road, Ransomville, NY, with the Rev. James R. Bastian officiating. 

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials are greatly appreciated and may be made in her name to the Summit Center School for Children with Autism or to Niagara Hospice. 

Inurnment in Acacia Park Cemetery, Town of Pendleton, NY.
