Evelyn M. (Delaney) Touma

Of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019 in  Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. She was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on August 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Sam and Eugenie Delaney who emigrated to Canada from Lebanon. 

Evelyn was raised and attended schools in Niagara Falls, Ontario. After studying at the University of Toronto, she married Edward A. Touma Sr. in 1945 and moved to Niagara Falls, NY. They were married for 37 years before he passed away in September of 1982.

She worked for the Niagara Falls Public Library and became the Director of the Circulation Department for nearly 22 years. She was also responsible for the purchase of all fiction books for the library.  Evelyn enjoyed gardening and floral arranging and was President of the Hyde Park Garden Club, as well as President of the Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Lebanon Church. She was also interested in politics and became President of the League of Women Voters.

Evelyn was an avid bridge player and reader who enjoyed doing the newspaper crossword puzzle daily.  Evelyn loved the game of golf and after retiring, she continued with her greatest passion. Since 1956,  she was a member of the Niagara Frontier Golf Club and became President of the Women's Division. She won several championships through the years and took great pride in her putting skill. Evelyn was also an amazing cook, especially with Lebanese cuisine. She and her daughter Jeanie would prepare a Christmas Eve feast of Lebanese delicacies to be enjoyed by her family annually.

She is survived by her son, Edward A. (Laurel) Touma Jr., two daughters, Louise A.  (Robert) Ganley and Eugenie M. Touma, her adored grandchildren Carolyn (Jon) Myers, Ellen Grant, David  (Katie) Touma and Laura  (Jon) Niytrai and "Situ" to her seven great-grandchildren,  a sister of Marguerite (Gibran) Majdalany also many loving nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was the sister of the late Jeanette (Dr. Norman) Courey.

Her family will be present on  Thursday from 4-8 PM at RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM, with Rev. Ivan Skenderovic officiating.

Memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice.

Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lewiston, NY.
