Of Lewiston, NY passed away January 20, 2018. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on November 25, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Amelia E. (Donop) Dunlap.
Ms. Dunlap attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1946. Jan attended the University of Missouri for three years then attended dental hygiene school in Buffalo where she graduated in 1951. Later she received a BS from Syracuse University and a MS from Brockport University in Health Education.
Jan was a dental hygiene teacher in Niagara Falls Schools from 1951, until the program was terminated. She then worked as the Health Education teacher at Trott Vocational High School until her retirement in 1984. Jan was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary society for teachers for over 50 years. She was president of the Niagara Falls Chapter and the State President in NY State. While studying in Missouri, she joined the Order of Eastern Star #290 and later became a member of Flagler Chapter #355 in Niagara Falls. Jan was a member for several years of the scholarship committee of the Niagara Falls Teachers.
She was a volunteer for American Red Cross for over 60 years teaching first aid, CPR and helping at blood banks. Jan spent summers in her home in Ogunquit, Maine from 1972 until 2014. She volunteered at the Ogunquit Playhouse and delivered meals on wheels.
She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. Jan played first base in the Niagara Falls church softball league for many years and bowled for 30 years in various school, church and Lewiston leagues.
She especially enjoyed traveling and visiting friends.
Jan is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.
A Memorial service will be held on April 28, 2018 at 2PM at the Lewiston Fire Company #1, 145 North 6th Street, Lewiston, NY 14092. Please wear something red in honor of Janette.
