Formerly of Williamsville and Lewiston, NY passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 with her family at her side, in  Elderwood at Wheatfield.   Juanita was born  in Norfolk, VA, on September 19, 1922, the daughter of the late John L. and Mary [Capps] Smith. 

She was a military wife and traveled with her husband to his assignments in many parts of the world. 

Juanita entered the workforce after her daughters were grown. Juanita first worked as a temporary secretary with the Kelly Girl Temp Agency and then with the Cheektowaga Central School District full time, until her retirement. 

She enjoyed singing with her church choir, reading and travel. She cared for her husband for many years at home prior to his passing. 

Juanita was the wife of 53 years to the late John A Mattison, Lieutenant Commander US Navy (Ret.),  who passed away in 2006.   She is survived by her daughter M. Nanette (Dennis) Jacobs, three grandchildren Justin (Laura) Jacobs, Meredith (Paul) Wustrack and Dr. Meghan Jacobs, two great grandchildren, Paul Wustrack IV and Mia Jacobs and several nephews.   Juanita was the mother of the late Victoria Pollien and her late identical twin Clothilde (Peter) Dooley, who passed on May 15, 2017. 

Her family will be present on  Friday from 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, Lewiston, NY where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY  14094.

Interment in White Chapel Memorial Park, Town of Amherst, NY.
