Formerly of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, in Newark Wayne Community Hospital, Newark, NY. She was born in Niagara Falls NY, on December 7, 1939, the daughter of the late Walter B. and Viola [Thompson] Woodworth.
Monica grew up in Sanborn and graduated from Wilson High School, third in her class. She received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Ithaca College in 1961 where she graduated magna cum laude and then received an Associates Degree in Accounting from the Finger Lakes College.
Monica had lived in Geneva, NY, North Charleston, SC where she was the organist at Park Circle for 13 years before moving back to Sanborn in 1995. She was also the organist at the former First Baptist Church in Sanborn for over 10 years and a member of the Sanborn Historical Society, the Friendship Club, and the Sanborn American Legion Auxiliary. Monica later moved to Newark Terrace and then Newark Manor to be closer to her family and enjoyed winning at Bingo, playing the piano for the residents and putting on special holiday concerts for them as well, going to the casino with Carl, and spending time with her family.
Monica was the wife of the late David Briggs. She is survived by two sons Mark (Kristen) Comstock, Carl (Molly) Comstock, six grandchildren Morgan Elizabeth, Lylly Mae, Ian Hunt, Marissa Noelle, Courtney Ann and Zoee Lee Anna, one brother Walter S. "Woody" (Marjorie C.) Woodworth and a nephew Cpt. (Ret) James D. Woodworth, US Army, also many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Stephen G. Woodworth.
The family will be present on Monday from 10-11:00 AM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Brad Delp officiating
