Sister Marietta Miller, OSF (born Irma Ann Miller) in Buffalo, NY on July 17, 1935, and died June 9, 2019 at the Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara, New York. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Kreppel) Miller.
Sister Marietta attended Annunciation Elementary School and Bishop McMahon High School in Buffalo, NY. She received a B.S. Degree from Rosary Hill (Daemen) College and an MSW degree from the University of Buffalo.
Sister Marietta entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity of Holy Name Province, at Stella Niagara, NY on August 2, 1953 and was professed July 2, 1956.
Sister Marietta taught at St. Ann School and St. Benedict School, Buffalo, NY; St. Joseph School, Gowanda, NY; Stella Niagara Seminary; Sacred Heart Commercial School, Columbus, OH; and St. Aloysius Academy, New Lexington, OH. She served as treasurer of the Stella Niagara Convent; Administrator at St. Mary Hospital, Nelsonville, OH; Social Worker at Baker Hall St. Francis Cottage, Lackawanna, NY; Alcoholism Council. Health Association of Niagara County (HANCI); and Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
Sister Marietta was Director of Candidates on the Formation Team of Associates and Vowed Members of the Sisters of St. Francis and was a Novice Director for Holy Name Province. She served two terms on the Provincial Council at Stella Niagara;was secretary general at the Generalate in Rome, Italy; then a general councilor in Rome
Besides serving as Teacher, Administrator, Secretary , and Social worker, Sister Marietta was committed to retreats and the ministry of Spiritual Direction, the cause of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation and community life.
She returned to Stella Niagara in 2011, continuing volunteer ministries, and she became a resident of the Stella Niagara Health Center in 2015.
Besides her parents, Sister Marietta was predeceased by her sister, Rita Wade and her brother, Donald Miller. She is survived by her sisters, Ruth (Francis)Scheda, Barbara Miller and Frances (Elmer) Johnson, many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her Sisters in Community.
Calling hours Friday, June 14 from 3-7PM with a prayer service at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial in the Sister's Chapel Saturday, June 15 at 10AM.
