Sister M. Christina Kraus, OSF ( Barbara Kraus) was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 25, 1928 and died July 30, 2019 at the Niagara Hospice, Lockport, NY. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Florentia (Schwilk) Kraus.
Sister Christina entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 17, 1950 and was professed August 18, 1952. She received a B.A. Degree in Social Studies from Rosary Hill (Daemen) College in Amherst, NY and an M.A. in Catechetics from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She was a Teacher at St. Benedict School, Buffalo, NY, Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bishop McMahon High School, Buffalo and Stella Niagara Seminary, as well as Holy Rosary School, Columbus, Ohio and St. Aloysius, New Lexington, Ohio,
Beginning in 1970, Sister Christina served in rural pastoral ministry and outreach in Junction City & McArthur, Ohio. She established the St. Francis Center in McArthur, Ohio as a pastoral evangelization and outreach center. She was honored in 1995 with the Catholic Extension Society Lumen Christi award. After her retirement, she continued to volunteer in Perry , Fairfield, Jackson and Vinton Counties in Ohio.
Sister Christina became a resident of the Stella Niagara Health Center in September 2018, returned briefly to Somerset, Ohio, and came back to the Health Center in November 2018. She became a resident of Niagara Hospice in Lockport, NY in July 2019.
Sister Christina will be missed by family and friends, and especially her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.
Mass of Christian Burial in the Sister's Chapel was held on Saturday, August 3 at 10AM.
