William L. Murphy, Sr. of the Town of Cambria, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on August 26, 1926, the son of the late Hugh and Etta Rae [Gilliam] Murphy and one of ten siblings.
Mr. Murphy graduated from St. Mary's High School. He served with the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II and after the war, he attended Syracuse University. Mr. Murphy was employed with Union Carbide for 35 years and was awarded several patents, before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, gardening, reading and baking.
Mr. Murphy was the husband of 69 years to the late Mary Louise Murphy, who passed away on May 19, 2018. He is survived by two sons William L. (Mary Jo) Murphy, Jr. and Patrick (Kathy) Murphy, four daughters M. Susan (Charles) Hossfeld, Mary (Sam) Hager, Donna (Bruce) Shahbaz and Melissa (Douglas) Musall, also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was the father in law of the late Joyce Murphy.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at the wishes of his family, with interment with military honors in North Ridge Cemetery.
