Anne “Nancy” Flynn Comerford, of Getzville, NY, died March 7, 2023. Born in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Edward M. and Ann Barron Flynn, she attended local schools before attending Loretto Academy in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Upon her graduation from Loretto, Nancy attended Niagara University before becoming a customer service representative at the New York Telephone Company business office at Third and Ferry. She also worked at the family business, Flynn’s Shoe Store, a long-time landmark at the corner of Main and South. In later years Nancy served as an election inspector for the Niagara County Board of Elections at Maple Avenue School.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her devoted husband, Gerald J, Comerford, the former City of Niagara Falls Deputy Controller in charge of the Billing & Collection Department, by her “favorite” brother, the late Edward M. “Mike” (Betty) Flynn, Jr., and by her late sister Elizabeth “Betty” Doody.
Nancy is survived by her adored son, Peter F. Comerford, her dear sister-in-law Elizabeth “Betty” (late Mike) Flynn, as well as several caring cousins, nieces and nephews. Nancy loved her Maple Avenue home and neighborhood in DeVeaux where she grew up and then lived for most of her life until Jerry’s death in 2004.
Visitation will be Sunday 2-5PM at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY. Nancy’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Raphael Parish, 3831 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY.
Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY in the Flynn / Barron family plot.
Memorials may be made to St. Raphael Parish; to the Asbury Pointe Employee Appreciation Fund, 50 Stahl Road, Getzville, NY 14068; or to the Buffalo Zoo Giraffe House, 300 Parkside Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14214.
Anyone who knew Nancy appreciates how much she loved giraffes and therefore, by many, was affectionately known as “The Giraffe Lady”.
