Of Niagara Falls N.Y. passed away December 4, 2025 at Buffalo General Hospital. She was born in Georgiana Alabama on March 27, 1945, daughter of the late Jimmy Lee Burnett and Eloise (Spencer)Burnett.
Mrs. Hicks was employed as an Editorial Assistant at the Niagara Gazette for nearly thirty years since 1968 writing the obituaries for several local funeral homes in the area.
Her favorite scripture was God's promises of the future at Revelations 21:3,4 "The tent of God is with mankind, and He will reside with them, and they will be his people. He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". Our Mom truly believed and lived by these words.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, game shows, knitting sewing cooking and especially baking. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
In 1976 Mrs. Hicks was awarded the Black Achievers Award for above standard work ethic. Although she appreciated the honor, the highlight of that year was her baptism as a Jehovah's Witness. She enjoyed sharing God's word with neighbors family and friends. Writing letters and even speaking to local neighbors on the phone of God's wonderful promises.
Mrs. Hicks was the wife of the late Mr. Neal C. Hicks Sr. who passed away August 20, 1990, survived by her oldest son Kevin M. McCoy Hicks, daughter Jamie Elaine(Troy) Winchester, son Neal C.(Lisa) Hicks jr.
Grandchildren Laurissa Ann Monique Hicks, Ebony Noelle Johnson, Kevin M. Hicks jr., Keon Anthony Hicks, Keenan Hicks, MaKayla Hicks, Nealya C. Hicks, Alexis Rose, Kristina Harwell, Neal C. Hicks lll, Kiah Alfozo, Makiah Hunt, Sydney Hicks, Baylee Hicks, Elizabeth Price, along with great-grandsons Josiah Shi'Mere Neal Hicks, Kayceon Hicks, and twins Amiriy G. Haynesworth, Kaisen J. Haynesworth and a host of great-grand children, sisters Clara(Willie)Dunn, and Delores Burnett. Special nieces Adrienne Marie Bedgood, and Deborah Ann Hicks and nephew Aries Bedgood of Oakland California and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
She was the sister of the late Willie Lois(Doll)Burnett, Ella Mae(Dewey)Bedgood, Larry (Joyce)Burnett, Jesse Burnett, Eddie(Diane)Burnett.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday December 13, 2025 at 11AM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 3200 17th St. Niagara Falls N.Y.
The family will be meeting at the family home shortly after the service. For those unable to attend the service in person, a live stream will be available via Zoom.
