Anthony Mooradian Sr.
Founder of Mooradian Rug Company
Anthony Mooradian Sr. of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Brookdale Niagara in North Tonawanda, NY. His family would like to thank the staff of the Brookdale Niagara memory care facility for their outstanding and compassionate care for “Tony”.
He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 2, 1928, the son of the late Sahag and Elizabeth (Avedesian) Mooradian. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Rose (Markarian) Mooradian in September 2009. He was also predeceased by his sister Alice (George) Petrosian.
In 1948, he founded the Mooradian Rug Company in Niagara Falls, where he worked for many years with his wife, until his retirement in 1991. Mooradian Rug Company continues to be operated by his sons and nephew.
In October 2003, he was inducted into the Niagara Falls Old Timer’s Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Mooradian served with the US Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing with his friends in Niagara Falls into his 91st year when he shot his age. He was also a daily communicant at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Youngstown.
Mr. Mooradian is survived by his children Donna (John) Hansen, Anthony (Karen) Mooradian, Sandra (David) Cedar and Thomas (Linda) Mooradian, as well as grandchildren Laura (Patrick) Finucan, Sarah (Adam Lynch) Mooradian, Anna (Ryan Begley) Mooradian, Allison (Brian) Turner, Thomas (Kalli) Mooradian, Laura (Lisa True) Hirsch, and Aaron (Kerri) Hirsch.
He was predeceased by his grandson Connor Mooradian.
He is also survived by his great grandchildren Claire, Caroline, Hannah, Luke, Daniel, Sofiana, Ashley, Nicholas, Zachary, Jadyn, Michael, Benjamin, Caroline and Anna, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his great grand dogs Kovy and Bauer, who he enjoyed so much.
A celebration of Anthony’s life will be held at a future date. A private interment will be held at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Youngstown, NY.
