Carol Force Obituary

Carol Force, 87, of Lewiston, died peacefully at home after a short illness. She was born in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, the eldest child of Fred and Ada Talbot, moving with them in infancy to Niagara Falls, NY.  The family returned every summer to the lake, creating a lifetime of happy memories and lifelong friendships for Carol.

Carol attended school in Niagara Falls, graduating in 1954. It was at North Junior High School where 14-year-old Carol’s love story with Paul Force began.

Paul predeceased Carol in 2017, just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary.  Carol and Paul spent their first year of married life with the Navy in southern California.  After returning to settle in Lewiston, they enjoyed boating, the 3-F Club, racing at the Ransomville Speedway, tending their vegetable garden and doting on their dogs.  Carol had a particular soft spot for golden retrievers.

Carol was a voracious reader and lifelong learner, with a keen interest in WWII and regional history. She assisted local author Suzanne Simon Dietz by reading manuscripts and providing suggestions for several of her books on these topics.  Carol kept up with the news, enjoying spirited conversations with close friends and family. She was a strong advocate for local cultural and historical organizations, co-chairing the Lewiston Art Festival in 1976, and more recently leading exercise classes and playing duplicate bridge at the Lewiston Senior Center.

Carol’s warm smile and cheerful nature endeared her to people everywhere she went. She counted friends at the local post offices, KeyBank, Coppins, and especially, the Youngstown Village Diner.

Carol’s early work years included bookkeeping for Force Motor Parts and the Book Corner. She finished her career as an administrative assistant with the district office of Lewiston-Porter Central Schools. Carol knew just about every teacher at Lew-Port through the 80s and 90s and helped to run the retiree “lunch bunch” for many years.

Carol is survived by her younger sister and brother, Helen Talbot of Lewiston, and Brian (Lee) Talbot of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She found great joy sharing in the lives of her 6 nieces and nephews: Heather Beebe (Luc Jarry), Alison Beebe, David (Susan) Beebe, Michael (Rebecca) Beebe, Alicia Talbot, Devin (Rachel) Talbot; and her great nieces and nephews: Laura, Anna, Sydney, Demetri, Claire, Emily, William, Henry, Juliette and Eloise.

The family would also like to acknowledge Jamie Pacheco, who provided special care and attention to Carol over the past year, and especially in her last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Lewiston Library, the Youngstown Free Library or the Western New York Land Conservancy.

Carol's family will be present on Wednesday, February 28, from 4-6PM, at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street LEWISTON, NY.
