Crandall Johnson, Sr. Obituary

Crandall Johnson, Sr.  of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away on Tuesday,  November 16, 2021, in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 18, 1941,  the son of the late Turtle Clan Chief  Tracy and Deer Clan Mother Norma Jean [Chew] Johnson.


Mr. Johnson attended Trott Vocational High School and was in the first graduating class of 1959 from Niagara Wheatfield, he had also attended SUNY at Canton.


He served with the US Army Air Borne and was  Honorably  Discharged.  

Mr. Johnson was an iron worker with Iron Workers Local #9 and had worked through out the country on many construction projects.


He was a spiritual guide for the Native American Church and was a member of the 7 Clan Archery Club. Mr. Johnson was deeply involved with his Tuscarora culture and history and one of the last who spoke his native language.

He is survived by his children Charisse (Thomas) Hall,  Crandall T. Johnson, Jr. and Arianna Gutierrez-Johnson, brothers Tracy (Catherine) Johnson, Jr.  and Ross (Lynn) and by his companion Ramona Gutierrez, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Mr. Johnson was the father of the late Jason,  Elias and Traci D. Johnson and husband of the late Virginia Johnson.

Private services were held at the wishes of the family.
