It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dale S. Roat, of Lewiston, New York, formerly of Flint, Michigan, on December 22, 2025. Dale passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Flint in 1943, Dale was the son of the late Doyle and Margaret (Deitering) Roat. He was the beloved husband of nearly 60 years to Janet (Warren) Roat. Together they built a family that was his greatest joy. Dale is survived by his daughters Shelly (Scott) Hinchliffe and Sarah (Scott) Waechter, and his cherished grandchildren Jack and Andy Hinchliffe and Emma and Maggie Waechter. He was predeceased by his brother, Gary (Deloris) Roat, D.O.
He founded his own company, Tocher Limited, a respected real estate appraisal and brokerage firm in the Flint area. Throughout his career, he dedicated his time and expertise to serving on numerous real estate committees and boards.
Dale’s happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren. He was a constant presence at their sporting events; hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball where he earned the affectionate nickname “Safari Poppie” for the hat he proudly wore in the stands. He also devoted countless hours to teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing, though with little success, much to their delight. His warmth, humor, and devotion will be deeply missed.
A Mass in Dale’s honor will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Flint, in the spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dale’s memory to Niagara Hospice, Lockport, New York, or Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York.
