Douglas Harrington Obituary

Douglas James Harrington

Doug “Dirt” Harrington of Pekin, NY passed away on December 19, 2021 at Gowanda Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was in the loving presence of family.  Doug was born in Lewiston, NY on October 1, 1936 to Lloyd and Ellen (Kaegebein) Harrington, the sixth of nine children.

He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, Mason, Shriner and sportsman. In 1974 he began working for Bowman Distribution, where he earned several awards, including 'Man of the Year'.

In 1993 he semi-retired to Swain, NY, a place he loved. He started his own business, Eagle Distribution Co., and later purchased John Barleycorns Tavern in Canaseraga, NY. During this time he would often enjoy archery, hunting and riding his Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, while traveling annually to bike rallies and Nascar races throughout the U.S. At the age of 66, he successfully rode his motorcycle to California and back, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

In 2017 he closed Eagle Distribution Co., and moved to assisted living in Cheektowaga, NY. In 2018 he moved to Gowanda Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for his remaining years.

He is survived by his children Julie A. Harrington-Link, K. Richard Harrington and Matthew L. Harrington; grandchildren Emily Link and Allan Harrington; brother Ronald Harrington; sisters Janice Lasal, Beth Knight, Norma O'Brien, Mary Lou Krish and Elaine Seymour.

He was the father of the late Tyler Douglas Harrington, and brother of the late Roger Harrington and Richard Harrington.

Calling hours to celebrate his life are Saturday, January 15th, 2022, 10 am - 1 pm at Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Rd, Sanborn, NY 14132
