Edward Ross Obituary

Edward Nathaniel Ross was lovingly known by family and friends as “Sonny”.   He was born on May 12, 1942 to the late Henry Ross and Maeolis (Ross) Holcomb in Farmville, VA.  He departed this life on Sunday, November 1, 2020.  


Edward grew up in Farmville, VA where he later moved to  NJ  which is where he learned to paint and became a professional house painter.  Edward then moved to Niagara Falls, NY where he was a short order cook,  quickly rising up to the position of head chef due to his many cooking talents, his food was enjoyed by many.   Edward worked for Union Carbide, Niagara Falls, NY for many years until his retirement.  Edward was a member of Damascus Baptist Church of Niagara Falls, NY. 

Edward was an avid bowler who had proudly achieved a perfect game score of 300 as well as games of 299 throughout his bowling career.  Edward's special bowling moment was winning the City Adult and Child Bowling Tournament  with his granddaughter Jasmine.  He played baseball and softball where he was on a number of traveling teams. He was known on the field as "Roadrunner".  He loved fishing and his greatest passion was cooking. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter Tracie L. Ross;  his sister Jaqueline Mosley, and his wife, Martha Jean Ward-Ross.

Edward is survived by his daughters Ann Cheely – Austin (Roger) of Cinicinnati, OH and Darlene Ross of Niagara Falls, NY (late James McDonald).  Step-children Sadie Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio, Michael Wilson of South Carolina, Dwane Ward of St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Melodie (Dwain) Baldon of Atlanta, Georgia, Darryl Ward of Tampa, Flordia, and Phaedra (Damion) Chatmon of Cleveland, Ohio.

He is also survived by sisters Mary Elizabeth Dixon (late William) of Norwich, Connecticut, Alberta Green (late George) of Newark, NJ, and LaVerne Johnston (Marco) of Union, NJ; brothers Hurve Holcomb of Brooklyn, NY and Larnell Holcomb of East Orange, NJ; step-brother Milton Carter (Marilyn); 26 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Family will be present on SATURDAY from 10-11AM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 1124 Ontario Avenue NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where services will follow at 11AM with Rev. Joseph Jones officiating.
 

Facial coverings and social distancing will be required.
