Of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, after a short illness. He lived his entire life in Sanborn except the past year when he was a resident of Wheatfield Commons Assisted Living in North Tonawanda. He felt blessed to receive such wonderful, loving care.
He was born at home on March 8, 1930, a son of the late Melvin E. and Ruth M. [Evans] Treichler.
He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Lois M. [Wethy] Treichler, who passed away in April of 2004.
Dear father of Janet (Thomas) Riggs, Kent (Joanne) Treichler and Jeffrey Treichler; dear grandfather of Thomas (Nellie) Riggs Jr., David Riggs, Derrick (Whitney), Brendan (Amanda) Treichler, Kyle (Angela) Rookey and Marc Treichler; dear great-grandfather of Ethan, Caden, Julia, Isla, Oliver and Noah, dear brother of Richard (Sharon) (late Louisa Rose) Treichler; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother of the late Robert ( Glee) Treichler.
Gerry was a graduate of University of Buffalo with a degree in Electrical Engineering (1951). He served with the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean War, with a tour of duty in Japan and Korea. He then was employed with Bell Aerospace for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
He loved the Lord and was a longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, where he was very active in his younger years, including being a wonderful counselor (with his wife) for the young adult group for many years.
He was a charter member of the Sanborn Area Historical Society (est. 1996), being very active in various roles and served as Secretary until 2023. He had been active in the American Legion Post #969 for 60 years, serving as adjunct for 50 years.
He loved his family's history and published a genealogy book “The History and Family Record of John Treichler 1724-2000”.
He was a kind, caring, helpful, independent man, and was loved by many.
You are invited to celebrate Gerry’s life on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 2-4 PM at the Sanborn Area Historical Society, Townsend Building, 2260 Saunders Settlement Rd., Sanborn, NY. Light refreshments will be provided and the Treichler Building will be open to tour. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 4:00 PM, with the Rev. Kenneth Craig officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Sanborn Area Historical Society (address above), or St. Matthew Lutheran Church 875 Eggert Drive, North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
Private inurnment in Mt. View Cemetery, Pekin.
