Gregory John (“Pumpkin”) Lowry, of Niagara Falls, New York, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. Greg was born in Youngstown, Ohio on October 6, 1963, the son of the late Charles and Jean (Groucutt) Lowry.
He attended St. Edward’s School in Youngstown and was a graduate of Liberty High School. It was in Youngstown that Greg, through a stroke of luck, met the love of his life, Julie A. Brundage. After a stint as a pizza entrepreneur, Greg and Julie put down roots in Niagara Falls. Greg worked as a truck driver for Drain Doctor and was involved in civic affairs.
Greg’s new geography never obliterated—or even dimmed—his lifelong affection for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed family, friends, travel and fun, but his greatest joy was watching his children’s sports activities. In day to day life, there was never a “Mr. Mom” more resourceful, clever and affectionate than Greg. He was President of the Whirlpool Park Little League and founder of Niagara Falls Rapids Travel Baseball. In the fall of 2023, Greg was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame; he received the Pep DiRamio Service Award for his contribution to youth sports.
Besides his beloved Julie, to whom he was married for twenty-nine years, Greg is survived by his loving children, Gregory Jude and Lyndijean Lowry, siblings Charles (Lorna), Patrick (Becky), Michael (Annie), Richard (Joy), Edward (Rhonda) Lowry, Christine (late Mickey) Vath, Mary Jean (late Michael) McCaffrey, Joan (Bill) Kroynovich, Kathleen (Mark Frankland) Mattozzi, mother-in-law Linda Brundage, and Julie’s siblings John (Stephanie), David (Leah) and Diana (late Christopher Neilsen) Brundage, as well as literally dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins, and uncounted friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Margaret his father-in-law, John (“Jack”) Brundage and his nephew Michael Lowry Jr.
His family will be present on Sunday, October 27 from 1-4 and 6-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY. Everyone is invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:00 AM St. Raphael Parish, 3840 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Daniel Young officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorials in Greg’s name to the Niagara Falls Rapids Cooperstown Team.
