Howard E. "Rye Yit Toos" Hill, of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital.
He was a member of the Onondaga Eel Clan, born on April 26, 1922, on the Tuscarora Nation, the son of the late Robert and Gertrude [Rickard] Hill.
Mr. Hill served with the US Army Air Corp, during World War II, in the European Theater.
He was a roofer with Local # 74 for over 50 years before retiring. Mr. Hill was a member and past president of the 7 Clan Bowman and the VFW Post #917.
He was a Tuscarora language teacher and enjoyed doing bead work, archery, working in his garden and bowling.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 68 years Bernice T. [Dumont] Hill, three sons Fred, Emmett (Joy) and Richard (Bev) Hill, three daughters Suzie (late Jim) Bloomstine, Catherine (Chris) Dawe and Janet (Chris) Nichols, also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Roberta Allen and Louise Hill.
His family will be present on Sunday from 2-4 at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY and on Monday from 10-12:00 PM at the Tuscarora Indian Mission, 5035 Walmore Road, Sanborn, with Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Donald A. Robinson officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined, memorials may be made in his name to the Tuscarora Language Class.
Interment with Military Honors in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
