Of Lewiston, NY, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Facility. He was 13 days shy of his 88th birthday (August 27th). Born in Niagara Falls, NY to the late James A. and Ada Luvinnie (Sulkey) Cody.
Jim graduated from Trott Vocational High School. He was an electrician by trade and worked for Carborundum Company in various capacities before retiring.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jim was active for many years in Cayuga Little League Baseball, he enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking and a nice glass of wine. Jim was a long time member and former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #346. More recently, he enjoyed his time as a volunteer docent for the Historical Association of Lewiston.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen (O’Donnell) Cody, who passed away in 2008.
Jim is survived by his loving daughters Kathleen (Toby) Ordiway, Karen (Joseph) Catanese and son James (Dawn) Cody, beloved grandchildren Christeen (Jeremy) Salimbene, Eileen (Mike) Kineke, Kate Catanese, Aubrey (Jordan) Scott, Tyler (Shuyang Wang) Ordiway, Becca Catanese and James Cody, and cherished great grandchildren Nico Salimbene, Chloe Salimbene, Thomas Wrobel and Isabella Scott, bonus great grandchildren Addison, Liam and Claire Kineke, also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother of the late Kevin, Karen, Richard and Charles Cody.
His family will be present on Monday from 4-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY.
Everyone is invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Historical Association of Lewiston or Buffalo Niagara Waterkeepers.
Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
