Of the village of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 5, 2024, under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 21, 1943, a son of the late Walter and Evelyn [Carlson] Allen.
Jim graduated from Lewiston Porter High School class of 1962 and immediately joined the family business, Allen's Garage (established in 1931) on a full time basis. Honorably discharged from the US Army, Jim was a veteran of Vietnam. Upon returning from active duty, he rejoined his brother, Bob, and his father, Walt, in the family's auto repair business. When his father chose to retire, the brothers (Bob & Jim) purchased the business and carried on the family tradition until 2002. Jim was a talented mechanic, took pride in his work, and went above and beyond to help his customers.
After marrying Suzanne (Emmens) in 1968, they built a beautiful life together in Niagara Falls, eventually settling in the Village of Youngstown to raise their only daughter, Candy.
Growing up, Jim enjoyed several years at the family cottage near Dunnville, Ontario and spent many hours fishing the waters of Lake Erie. After retirement, Jim restored a wooden boat named Whiskey and enjoyed many hours on Lake Ontario. He also enjoyed crossing Lake Ontario with his cruiser, spending time docking at Toronto Islands during the summer as well as Wilson Harbor. March found Sue and Jim traveling south to Myrtle Beach to reunite with his brothers Tom (Dorothy) who resided in the area as well as Bob (Leone) who traveled from their home in the Adirondacks to enjoy time together.
Jim leaves behind Suzanne, his life companion and much treasured daughter Candace Allen-Thomas, son-in-law Robert Thomas and his much loved granddaughter, Julia Marie Thomas. Also surviving are two brothers Thomas (Dorothy) and Robert (Leone) Allen, sister-in-law Christine (late Donald) Terryberry as well as several nieces and nephews.
Respecting and honoring Jim's wishes, a private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
