Jean M. Morton

Jean M. Morton of Grand Island, NY,  passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021,  under the care of her family and Hospice Buffalo.  She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on May 28, 1931, the daughter of the late George W. and Mary L. (Marino) Leffler.

Jean attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1950 and moved to Sanborn in 1973.

Jean remained active with class activities, enjoyed Silver Sneakers, and socializing with her several lunch groups.

She was the senior payroll clerk with the Niagara Falls Board of Education where she was employed for 30 years and continued to passionately support her ‘board girls’ long after her retirement in 1993.

Jean loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was loved by many more who called her Grandma Morton.  She could often be found working in her yard or up on a ladder, well into her eighties.

She was the devoted wife of the late Gerald A. Morton, who passed away in December of 1998.

Mrs. Morton is survived by her children, Thomas W. Morton and Sherry (Mark) Schimley, four grandchildren, Kristen (Greg) Toscano, Karen (David R.) Sugg, David (Sabrina) Schimley and Michael (Robert) Schimley, three great grandchildren, Madelyn and Quinn Sugg and Amora Schimley, two sisters-in-law Janet and Marina Leffler, also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

She was the sister of the late William and Charles Leffler.

Her family will be present on Thursday from 4-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY, with the Rev. Cole Webster officiating.

Flowers are gratefully declined.  Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd, Buffalo, NY 14227.
