Of Lewiston, NY, passed away on November 19, 2025, at Niagara Hospice House, after a (since 2020) battle with ovarian cancer. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Anthony, who passed away on August 16, 2014, her father, John Gratton, who passed away in 1979, and her maternal grandmother, Helen Michalski, who passed away in 1986.
She is survived by her mother, Yolande Gratton, of Cheektowaga, brother Gregory Gratton, of VA and sister Suzanne, of AZ. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Al (Judy) and nieces Lauren (Jon), Christina (Joe), Catherine (Todd) and Jillian, all of RI.
Jeanne lived in the Buffalo area her whole life, in Cheektowaga, Kenmore, Tonawanda, and has lived in Lewiston since 2005. She graduated from Cheektowaga Central in 1984, and from Canisius College in 1988. She was a career sales rep, starting off at Moore Business Products in Amherst, NY, and then made the transition to pharmaceutical sales, starting with Wyeth in 1993, and has been with Lilly Diabetes USA since 2010 until most recently, where she had to stop working due to her illness. She was especially appreciative of Lilly and her colleagues for their assistance during her illness. Jeanne always worked extra jobs most notably was the Friday night hostess at Gadawski's Restaurant in Niagara Falls, where many good friendships were made and many good times were had. Many great memories having Friday night dinner with Mary Beth, Andrea, Maria, Angela, and many others that worked at the restaurant.
Jeanne is also survived/predeceased by her dog Vada, who she and Tony adopted from Joyful Rescues in 2013. After Tony's death, she became more involved in dog rescue and took on more responsibility with Joyful, and coordinated adoption events and other activities to help homeless dogs find homes. She set up numerous fundraising activities for the rescue, raising tens of thousands of dollars over her volunteering time, many of those activities continue on today. She also fostered over 400 dogs/puppies for the rescue. She grew a following on social media of "Thursday night pupdates", so that people viewing could watch the growth and development of the puppies.
She also has been an active Board Member for the rescue since 2020. Jeanne got involved with several rescues in Puerto Rico over the last 10 years and would frequently fly down to San Juan to bring back rescue puppies to Buffalo to find homes here. Many good friends were made during meeting people through rescue, especially Sue Moltrup who became her dog rescue BFF.
Too many names to mention, but a special shout out to the Carrato's for becoming like family and including her in family events. Celebrating birthdays and even having their own Christmas party every year was very special. Jeanne thanks Joye and Katie and everyone at the rescue for allowing her the freedoms to get involved at the rescue and do her thing.
Jeanne's neighbors on her street helped her a lot during her illness - "Team Jeanne", and her family wants to thank her neighbors Lisa/Chris, Tom/Bernadette, Chas/Rhonda and Chris/Jen.
Jeanne had many friends who helped her along the way - too many to mention, but many of whom also helped with all the dogs too. And then her very good friend Mary Beth Gadawski Nugent, who was always there, and checked on her daily. Jeanne has many fond memories of being included in the Nugent/Gadawski family events for many years.
Jeanne and Greg started a new tradition after Covid to meet in Vegas every 4th of July for a few nights. They made 6 trips and created many happy memories along the way, staying only at the Wynn Las Vegas. People will say how hot it is there in July, but it needs to be noted that they rarely left the hotel.
Thank you to all the medical and support staff at Roswell for helping Jeanne through all the trials and tribulations of this illness.
Her family will be present on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held at 11:30, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM at St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY.
Donations in Jeanne's memory can be made on the Joyful Rescue website, JoyfulRescues.org, put #TeamJeanne in the notes.
