Jeanne M. Edwards Lopano

JEANNE M. EDWARDS LOPANO

Of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY.  She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on May 6, 1923, a daughter of the late William H. and Jane K. [McBride] Firth, Sr.

Jeanne graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s High School as valedictorian, Mt. St. Mary’s School of Nursing and earned her BS in nursing from St. Louis University in 1946.  After graduation, Jeanne served as a faculty member of the Niagara University School of Nursing, providing clinical instruction at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital.

After raising her seven children, Jeanne continued her nursing career at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital, in the newborn nursery, for 25 years.

Jeanne was a faithful and active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (now Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph) for more than 70 years.

She was the wife of the late George D. Edwards, Sr., who passed away in 1971 and the late George N. Lopano, who passed away in 1998.

Jeanne was the beloved mother of Maureen (Charles) Olson, Jane Edwards Vicki, Anne (Robert) Fahning, George (Katherine) Edwards, Mary (Dale) DeBacco, Bruce (Susan)  Edwards and John (Trish Copeland) Edwards and step-mother of Mary Lou (late Richard) Kunzig, Betsy (Charles) Cornell, Nicholas (Linda) Lopano, Delores (Frank) Ennis, Joseph (Janet) Lopano ,George (Debra) Lopano, she is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous well-loved Lopano grandchildren.

She was the sister of the the late William (Helen) Firth,  Bruce (Mildred) Firth and Eleanor (Val) Price and step mother of the  the late Jeanne (Robert) Hawke and Mark Lopano.

Her family will be present on Tuesday from 3-7  PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY.  Everyone is invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on  Wednesday at 10:00 AM  at Holy Family of Jesus Mary and Joseph Parish, Mt. Carmel Site, 2499 Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY.

Memorials may be made in Jeanne’s name  to Holy Family Parish , or Heart, Love and Soul.

Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
