Mother Braswell married Columbus Braswell on January 3, 1943, in Fort Huachuca, AZ, while he
was stationed in the United States Army. They moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1945. Mr. Braswell
passed away in June of 1984. Mrs. Braswell was employed for many years at Carborundum
Corporation until a health concern forced her to leave. She later made the decision to attend the
Lillian Dora School of Beauty Culture in Buffalo, NY and became a licensed beautician from
1961 until her retirement in 1983.
At age she answered God's call on her life and began working in ministry shortly thereafter.
She loved people and one of her greatest joys was to share her love of Jesus Christ with
whomever she met. As a result of her commitment to ministry, in 1967, she established
the Independent Church of God in Christ in Lockport, NY, better known as the "Little
Church on the Hill". Although the church eventually ceased its operations, Mother
Braswell's dedication did not waiver. In July of 1978, she founded the Independent
Church of God in Christ in Hornell, NY, where she served as Pastor until 1997. She was
ordained as Pastor and Overseer of Rehoboth Deliverance Ministry, Hornell, NY, in 1998.
She stepped down as Pastor in 2013, however, Mother Braswell maintained her roll as
Founder and Overseer until her death.
She is survived by her children, James Michael (Nadrue) Braswell and Sandra
Elane (Arthur) Searight, four grandchildren, Victoria, Donna, Arthur and Andrea,
10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild who makes her arrival
on January 19, 2019.
Her family will be present on Thursday from 11-12 PM at New Jerusalem
Revival Center, 2327 20th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, with funeral services to
follow at 12:00 PM.
Interment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
