Leo "Lee" Minnie Obituary

Leo "Lee" D. Minnie of Ransomville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.     He was born in Old Forge, NY on May 22, 1938, son of the late Leo and Irma (Smith) Minnie.

Mr. Minnie graduated from the Town of Webb schools in Old Forge, NY in 1956. He attended Oswego State, Buffalo State and Niagara University where he received masters degrees.  Mr. Minnie was a teacher at Niagara Wheatfield for 35 years.

He enjoyed local history, serving on the town of Webb Historical Association. A lifetime outdoor enthusiast, Lee served as member of the executive board of the Old Forge Fish and Game Club.   Mr. Minnie also worked 20 years as a member of the special forces unit of the  Niagara County Sheriff's Dept. in  which he trained and handled three bloodhounds. The pinnacle of this work, was winning outstanding mantrailing bloodhound of the year in the nation.

Mr. Minnie is survived by his wife of 60 years,  Laura M (McCann) Minnie, Sons Leo D (Karen)Minnie and Andrew J. Minnie, grandchildren Allie (Justin) Olvey, Leo "Zach" Minnie, Alek and Katelyn Henka and Molly Kathleen Jane Minnie , great grandchildren  Duke Theodore Olvey, Ace William Olvey, and Carson Aleksander Henka.  Also survived by many, many loved and loving in laws and over 50 nieces and nephews, brother  Harold (sue) Minnie.

He was the father of the late Marbeth Minnie, brother of the late Donald (Rose) Minnie, Virginia (Walter) Dresser, Carol Minnie, and Barbara (Thomas) Keating.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 12, 2020 at 1PM at Saint Bartholomew's Church, 189 Park Ave, Old Forge, NY 13420.


Interment in  Riverview Cemetery, Old Forge, NY.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made  to the Town Of Webb Historical Association in Old Forge.
