Leona M. (nee Dyczkowski) Slazyk

Leona M. (nee Dyczkowski) Slazyk of Lewiston, NY passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital.  She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on January 31, 1920, the daughter of the late Andrew and Pauline [Kornacki] Dyczkowski.

She graduated from Niagara Falls High School and completed her career preparation at Kelley Business Institute.  She was employed by Moore Business Forms, Sears and Niagara County Department of Social Services.

In 1945,  she married Captain Walter J. Slazyk, together they made their home in Lewiston NY, singing together in church choirs and the Echo club.   They enjoyed square and round dancing, for which she sewed all their costumes.   They loved going to musicals at Melody Fair, Niagara Falls Community Theater, and Artpark.   Mrs. Slazyk had a life-long passion for opera, reading, cooking, and playing the piano.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter J. Slazyk, Sr., an infant son, her siblings Theodore, Eugene, Raymond, Angela, Victor, Walter, Thaddeus, Marcella, and  Leonard, and her many in-laws.

Mrs. Slazyk is survived by two sons Walter J. Slazyk, Jr. and Joel (Stephanie) Slazyk, one daughter Theresa (John) Adams,   seven grandchildren Timothy (Andrea) Slazyk, Melanie (Scott) Meador, Julie Adams, John Adams, Jr., Amy Slazyk, Sarah (Drew) Schiavone, and Falon Capenhurst, great-grandchildren Tyler (Jessica), Haylee, Katelyn, Jack and Julia, and great-great-grandchildren Ryleigh and William.   She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and her loving care companions Marylou Chism, Barbara Morse and Nia Swensson.

Her  family will be present on Sunday 3-7 PM  at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 AM, followed by a  Mass of Christian Burial at  9 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY, with the Rev. Cole Webster officiating.
