Lois H. Palmerton
Of the Town of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022, in Mesa, AZ, at the young age of 101. She was born in Watertown, NY, on April 16, 1921, the daughter of the late Louis Hequembourg and late Reba [Fisher] Hequembourg Smith.
Lois attended school in Remsen, NY and moved to North Tonawanda, NY in 1940 when her widowed mother married Harry Smith. She graduated from Bryant Stratton Business Institute.
Lois worked for Buffalo Bolt Company during World War II, with the Richardson Boat Company and later for the North Tonawanda Housing Authority in 1952, retiring in 1986.
She had lived in the Town of Lewiston with her late husband of 70 years, the late Elwyn F. Palmerton, who passed away in 2012.
Together they built their home in the country on 2½ acres. She was adept at many of the construction projects, especially mixing cement.
In 1972, they purchased 25 acres of land in Chautauqua County and spent over 35 years creating their beloved Cider Creek Camp.
Lois enjoyed all things nature, flowers, birds, trees and animals. Her patio and flower beds were always in bloom from spring through fall. She could tell you the names of all the birds that would visit her bird feeders. Lois and her husband would make Cider Creek Maple Syrup during the winter months. There were many wild animals that could be seen roaming their acreage.
Mom loved all of her pets. Her dogs; Sandy, Daisy, Babes, Panda, Gracie and Lola. Her cats; Dolly, Francie and BC.
She enjoyed music, reading, crossword puzzles, playing games and watching the Buffalo Bills. She was an excellent cook using many of her mother's recipes.
Lois is survived by four children, Frederick Palmerton, Rebecca Palmerton Ripley, Todd (Sean Kienle) Palmerton and Gretchen (Charles Moehring) Palmerton, grandchildren Jeffrey Palmerton, Tara (Stephen) Swinehart, Dena Jones, Elwyn F. Palmerton Ill, and Marissa (Chris Beem) Palmerton, great grandchildren Sterling (Rachel Williams), Ashton, Lexi, Dagen, Presley, Ripley, Daniel, Zachary, Davin, Jesse, Jack and Jude; and her great great grandchildren Briar, Bohdi and Asher, also many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of late Barbara Ann Palmerton and Elwyn F. Palmerton, Jr., great grandmother of the late David Swinehart, sister of the late Frederick Hequembourg and her twin Barbara Hoover.
She will be inurned next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.
