Lois M. Strong
Of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport. Lois was born in Meadville, PA on October 21, 1943, a daughter of the late Perry J. and Eleanor [Agnew] Shontz. Lois grew up in Conneaut Lake, PA as a vivacious and bold farm kid alongside her twin sister Alice and elder siblings Ruth, David and John.
Lois graduated from Edinboro State University with a teaching degree. She and her dear husband of 59 years Raymond W. Strong moved to Lewiston in 1965 to teach in the Lewiston Porter Central Schools. She was a much respected and beloved teacher for 25 years, while raising her three boys, Mark, Todd and David.
Lois maintained an active social life in service to others. She enjoyed games of all nature; bridge, dominoes, euchre, and took up MahJong with the ladies from First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown later in life. Above all, she wanted to play whatever anyone else wanted to play. She wanted others to feel seen, heard and included. Lois was a stellar cook, famous for her cookies, pies, jams and jellies and raised three boys who can cook and clean, much to her daughters-in-law’s delight.
Lois is survived by her loving husband Ray, sons Mark (Suzanne), Todd J. (Karen) and David E. (Emily) Strong, her siblings Ruth (Tony) Stelatto, David (late Pat) and John (Nancy) Shontz and her twin sister Alice (late Peter Jack) Mikovch, eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Her family will be present on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 11th at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church Street, Youngstown, NY.
