Of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in the Town of Cambria, on February 4, 1930, a son of the late Howard and Mildred [ Bodie] Quast.
Mr. Quast attended the Cambria Center one room school house and graduated from Lockport High School. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After returning from the service, he began working at Wurlitzer for several years before starting his own business, the NORTON Auto and Home Store for 10 years. He then returned to Wurlitzer for a short time before becoming a customer sales representative with Carborundum until retiring in 1992, and continued as a delivery driver for Treichler's Florist for many years.
He was a Cub Scout leader and sang in several of the area church choirs. Mr. Quast was well known for his "Traveling with Mel" tours, in which he arranged local bus trips and skiing trips to Europe for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Daune [Hodgins] Quast, two sons Rick (Nancy) and Randy (Deb) Quast, three grandchildren Jon (Jen) Quast, Becky (Brian) Vail and Haley Quast, ten great grandchildren, a brother Dick (Colleen) Quast, also many nieces and nephews.
His family will be present on Friday from 4-8 PM at The RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ - Shawnee, 3921 Mapleton Road, North Tonawanda, NY, with the Rev. Ronald Lord officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice or to St. Paul's UCC.
Interment with Military Honors in Wheatfield Cemetery.
