Richard L. Gerlach of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. He was born in Buffalo, NY on March 6, 1945, a son of the late Laverne and Lorraine [Koch] Gerlach.
Mr. Gerlach was a graduate of Starpoint High School and Buffalo State Teachers College, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
He was an art teacher at Starpoint for over 33 years and also taught culinary arts at the school before retiring in 2002. He was proud of his work on the Starpoint negotiating team and delighted in lifelong friendships with former students.
Mr. Gerlach enjoyed design, traveling, antiques and cooking for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty J. [Krolick] Gerlach, a daughter Jennifer (Shawn) Strege, two grandchildren Logan and Sienna Strege, a brother Robert (Margaret) Gerlach. He was the uncle of Todd (Kendra) Gerlach, Tracy (Jim) Ormsbee and Ethan (Caroline) Krolick.
His family will be present on Friday from 3-6 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, with funeral services to follow at 6:00 PM, with the Rev. James C. Bastian officiating.
