Richard Low Obituary

Richard I. Low

October 11, 1938 – February 19, 2023

Surrounded by his loving family, Richard I. Low, Lewiston, NY, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Niagara Hospice House following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 11, 1938 to the late Robert and Mary (Kelly) Low.

Richard grew up in Niagara Falls, attending local parish schools. He graduated from Bishop Duffy High School in 1956 and John Carroll University in 1960. Richard was a Vietnam-era veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1961 to 1964.

In 1964, Richard returned to Niagara Falls and began his career with Niagara County Social Services after which he became a Niagara County Probation Officer. He began his long career as a Parole Officer for the New York State Division of Parole in 1973. He retired in 2000 as the Bureau Chief, Buffalo Office, receiving many accolades for his dedicated service from various law enforcement agencies and then- Governor George Pataki.

As proud as he was of his career, Richard’s greatest pride and joy was his family for whom he was their number one cheerleader. He married the former Sharon G. Ross on September 4, 1965 with whom he had two children and was blessed with four grandchildren.

Richard was a devout Catholic, a daily communicant at St. Peter’s R. C. Church in Lewiston where he was also a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for over 40 years. In addition to spending time with his family, he was an avid golfer, reader, and lifelong Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, especially to Aruba.

In addition to Sharon, his wife of 57 years, Richard is survived by his daughter Colleen (Gregory) Low Larkin, his son Christopher (Cindy) Low, and his grandchildren, Reilley and John Larkin and Cierra and Caila Low. He will be remembered fondly by his many friends.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Niagara Hospice, and Upper Mountain Fire Company for their care, as well as to all those who visited and supported him during his final battle.
