Of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. He was born in Big Run, on March 21, 1931, a son of the late Homer and Sue [Atherton] Pierce.
Mr. Pierce served with the 3rd Division US Army during the Korean War, where he received a Bronze Star, 4 Bronze Campaign Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Presidential Unit Citation. After returning from the service, he moved to Niagara Falls in 1952.
He was employed with Bell Aircraft in the rocket section, he worked on the Power Project and became a supervisor with the General Motors Tonawanda Foundry in 1961 until being transferred to the Defiance Plant in Ohio, until his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Pierce was a member of the 3rd Infantry Society, Wesley United Methodist Church and volunteered for over 13 years with the Niagara Bible Conference.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, building and was an avid sportsman.
Mr. Pierce is survived by his wife of 68 years H. Lorraine [Frye] Pierce, his children Robert J. (Amy) Pierce and Jackie (Tim) Corbett, six grandchildren Jeffrey (Danielle) Pierce, Janelle (Nick) Debbins, Allyson (Ryan) Austin, Rohn (Tara) Pierce, Shaun (Rachel) Corbett and Tyler Corbett, nine great grandchildren Hudson, Roman,Brailey, Connor, Reagan, Kian, Cole, Emelia and Joseph, also many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Barker, Chester, Merrill and George Pierce and Margaret Engle.
His family will be present on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. James United Methodist Church, 4661 Porter Road, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to Wounded Warriors or to Niagara Hospice.
Interment in Wheatfield Cemetery.
