ROBERT "BOB" RAMOS
Of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2023 , in Elderwood at Grand Island. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on August 23, 1921, a son of the late Wenceslao and Angelica [Gonzalez] Ramos.
Bob was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, where he attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocation High School. He served with the US NAVY during WW II in the Asian Pacific Campaign. Recognition for his service was finally paid by Congressman Brian Higgins at a ceremony at the John Duke Senior Center in August of 2022, where he was awarded the deserved medals and lauded for his service.
After returning from the war, he began working at Bethlehem Steel and later became a welder at Hooker Chemical Company, until his retirement in 1980.
The John Duke Center was a special place for Bob, he served on committees and assumed many duties, including president, secretary and treasurer. He enjoyed spending time there playing pool, participating in the activities and chatting with the members. He also served on the board of Retired Men's Service Club and the Hooker retirees.
Bob loved driving, gardening, reading, baking and being with friends and family.
He was the husband of the late Margaret [Fernandez] Ramos, who passed away in July of 2004, they were married on August 28,1942.
Bob is survived by his daughter Cynthia (Nacho Hernandez) Ramos, two granddaughters Rebeca (Santiago) and Belen, two great grandsons Santiago and Gael and was the uncle of Jim (Joni) Fernandez, Vincent Mazon, Barbara (Michael) Fleming, Nina Palmer, along with many other nieces, nephews and family members.
He was the brother of the late Angelica Mazon and Carmen van Hoombeck.
His family will be present on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 3-5 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, followed by Naval Military Honors.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice.
