Ruth Gilmour Obituary

Ruth Gilmour, 95, of Lewiston, NY died peacefully at home on Monday, December 20, 2021, with her family at her side.  She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, to Lillian and Richard Smith.

Ruth leaves behind her five children: Sandra Hennelly, Heather Rosario (Robert), Janet Miranda (Michael), William Gilmour (Kathryn), and Ruth Schweizer (Gregory); her seven grandchildren: Heather Petersen (Douglas), Arthur Hennelly, Allyson Cunningham (William), Michael Schweizer (Michelle), Lauren Pazmino (Brian), Morgan Williams (Jared), Madison Schweizer; and great grandson, Jackson.

Her four siblings; Lillian, Richard, Winnifred, and David predeceased her.

She wed her sweetheart William Gilmour on June 24, 1948.   They were married for 60 years until Bill’s death in 2009.

Ruth was a devoted loving mother and grandmother.   She was an attentive listener, a wise counselor and kind comforter. She always commended and supported her family’s efforts and accomplishments.

Ruth warmly welcomed all to her home. She was an accomplished cook and talented seamstress. She also had a soft spot for all creatures great and small.

Ruth appreciatively gave credit to our Creator for all the wonder, beauty, and artistry she enjoyed in the world around her.
Always a deeply spiritual person, Ruth made her relationship with her God, Jehovah, a priority in her life.  As a Jehovah’s Witness for over 50 years, she was a keen student of the Bible and worked diligently to imitate the example of Jesus Christ.  Her efforts in this regard had a profound impact on her family and they deeply valued the privilege to share their lives with a woman of such faith.

It was Ruth’s long held conviction in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection that kept her looking forward and gives her family hope as well.  Bible verses like Isaiah 25:8 gave her the assurance that Jehovah God “… will swallow up death forever, and … will wipe away the tears from all faces.”

A virtual funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 29th at 2:00 pm.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Sonjoy Singh and his staff, and to all friends who through their generosity and kind words of encouragement, have helped them through this difficult period.
