Sister Dolores Marie Schmidt, OSF

Sister Dolores Marie Schmidt, OSF  (formerly Sister M. Constance)  was born April 11, 1925  in Buffalo, NY.  She was the daughter of the late Charles and Amelia (Kauer) Schmidt.  Sister Dolores Marie  died on July 4, 2021 at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY,  at the age of 96.
 

Sister Dolores Marie  entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara September 14, 1941 and was professed August 18, 1943

She received her Bachelor's degree from Canisius College, Buffalo, NY, in 1954; and her Master's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1958.

Sister Dolores Marie's principal ministry was education.  She served in New York at St. Benedict and St. Lawrence Schools, Buffalo (1946-1949); Bishop McMahon High School, Buffalo (1974-1980 & 1982-1985); in Ohio at Rosary High School, Columbus (1949-1950 & 1955-1959)  and St. Francis de Sales High School, Columbus (1971-1974); in West Virginia at Charleston Catholic High School (1950-1955, 1959-1970 & 1970-1971); and in New Jersey at Mater Dei High School, New Monmouth (1985-1990).

Besides teaching, Sister Dolores Marie was Coordinator at the Stella Niagara Health Center (Hofling Hall) from 1980-1981.  She served as treasurer at Sacred Heart Academy, Buffalo, NY (1981-1982), as building coordinator (1990-2000), and as assistant finance officer (2003).  She also served in the cafeteria at Daemen College, Amherst, NY from 2000-2003. 

Before moving to the Stella Niagara Health Center on June 30, 2021, Sister Dolores Marie resided with the San Damiano Community, Amherst, NY, while continuing to volunteer at Sacred Heart Academy.  

Sister Dolores Marie is survived by her sister, Marjorie Lester, as well as many devoted nieces and nephews, as well as her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community. 

She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, James and George.

A Celebration of Sister Dolores Marie's life will be held Wednesday, July 7, with a wake from 4-7PM, and a prayer service at 7PM.  Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, July 8 at 10AM.  Unvaccinated attendees are asked to wear masks.  Other social distancing requirements will be indicated.
