Sister M. Alice Metzger, OSF

Sister M. Alice Metzger, OSF, age 94,  born Elaine Metzger in Columbus, Ohio on April 11, 1930, died on March 7, 2025 at Stella Niagara Health Center. She was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Boley) Metzger. 

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on September 1, 1948 and was professed August 17, 1951. She received her B.S. degree from Rosary Hill (Daemen Univ.) in Buffalo, NY in 1975. Sister Alice served mainly in education and farming/gardening in New York, at St. Ann School, Buffalo (1951-52); St. Anthony School, Warsaw (1952-53); Stella Niagara (1962-64 and 1969-70); and St. Benedict School, Eggertsville (1970-74);  in Ohio at St. Peter School, Columbus (1959-60); St. John School, Columbus (1960-62); St. Charles, Columbus (1964-66);  St. Aloysius Academy, New Lexington,(1966-69);  St. Bernadette School, Lancaster (1975-81); St. Rose School, New Lexington (1981-82); St. Mathias School, Columbus (1982-85); and Logan Public School, Logan (1986-88); in West Virginia at Sacred Heart School, Charleston (1985-86 and 1988-90); and in New Jersey at St. Mary School, New Monmouth (1953-55) and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Highlands (1959).  Over time, Sister Alice also volunteered as a tutor in a local public school, as a gardener and with St. Mary Parish outreach program in New Straitsville, Ohio.  She cared for her elderly parents from 1990-93. She retired in Ohio in 1999 and moved to the Stella Niagara in 2022, where she was a joyful member of the Health Center Community. 

Besides her parents, Sister Alice was predeceased by her brothers, Father John Metzger and Brice Metzger.  She is survived by and lovingly remembered by many cousins, her devoted friend, Sister Mary Catherine Raymond, OSF, as well as her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.   

Wake Sunday, March 9 from  4-7PM with a prayer service at 7PM.  Mass and burial at St. Patrick Church in Junction City, OH.
