Sister M. Phyllis Fuest, OSF, born Rita Fuest in Buffalo, NY on May 28, 1928, died on December 23, 2024 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, NY. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Marian (Moll) Fuest.
Sister Phyllis entered the Sisters of St. Francis on September 3, 1952 and was professed August 18, 1955. She received her B.S. degree in Education from Rosary Hill (Daemen University) in Buffalo, New York in 1963. Sister Phyllis began her ministry by teaching at Bishop McMahon High School, Buffalo, NY (1955-1963). She was assistant to the Business Administrator at Rosary Hill College, Buffalo, NY (1963-1983); was Director of Housekeeping at Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora (1983-1984); was secretary at St. Lawrence Parish Rectory, Buffalo, NY (1984-1991); was office manager for Dr. Braun, Buffalo, NY (1991-1992); was Pastoral Assistant and bookkeeper at Immaculate Conception Parish, Eden, NY (1992-2000); and Postmaster at the Stella Niagara Post Office beginning in 2000 until retirement in 2018. Sister Phyllis moved to the Stella Niagara Health Center in 2019. She was gifted in working puzzles, quilting and knitting.
Besides her parents, Sister Phyllis was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Donald and Mary Fuest and her brother-in-law Reginald Goodrich. She is survived by her sisters Patricia Goodrich, Sister Ritamary Fuest, OSF and Sister Dorothy Mueller, OSF, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.
Wake Monday, December 30 from 4-7PM with a prayer service at 7PM and Mass of Christian Burial in the Sister's Chapel Tuesday, December 31, at 10AM.
