Sister Marion Karl , OSF (formerly Sister Bernetta), born in Buffalo, NY on May 12, 1924, died on March 27, 2023 at the Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara, New York. She was the daughter of the late Casper and Josephine Emma
(Andrews) Karl.
A proud graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Buffalo, NY, Sister Marion entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity on September 2, 1945 and was professed August 18, 1947.
Sister Marion’s principal ministry was Education. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Rosary Hill (Daemen University) in Amherst, NY in 1968. Sister Marion served in Ohio at St. Peter School (1947-48), St. John School (1948-50 and 1950-51) and Sacred Heart School (1958-59) in Columbus; St. Paul Parish, Athens as convent housekeeper (1955-57); in West Virginia at St. Anthony School (1951-55) and Sacred Heart School, Charleston (1957-58, 1959-66); in South Carolina at St. Anthony School, Greenville (1966-69) and in New York at St. Peter School, Lewiston (1969-79) and St. Benedict School, Buffalo as librarian (1979-2006).
Though Sister Marion retired in 2012, she continued to serve at the Main Desk at Stella Niagara, welcoming visitors. Sister Marion became a resident of the Stella Niagara Health Center in June, 2014.
Besides her parents, Sister Marion was predeceased by her brother, Norbert C. Karl and two sisters, Vera Hunold and Rita Hess. She is survived by one brother, Donald Karl, a sister, Dorothy Smith, many nieces and nephews, as well as her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 31 from 4-7PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and Mass of Christian Burial in the Sister's Chapel on Saturday, April 1 at 10:00AM.
