Sister Mary DiLeone, OSF (formerly Sister Vincent Marie) was born August 20, 1933 in North Tonawanda, NY. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Christina (Porto) DiLeone. Sister Mary died on August 26, 2021 at the Stella Niagara Health Center, at the age of 88.
Sister Mary entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara September 5, 1954 and was professed July 2, 1957. She received her Bachelor's degree from Rosary Hill (now Damen) College, Buffalo, NY, in 1964.
Sister Mary's principal ministry was education. She served at St. Joachim (1957-1959), St. Benedict (1959-1963), St. Lawrence (1963-1964), and St. Ann (1964-1965) , Buffalo, NY; St. Anthony School , Charleston, WV (1965-1967); St. Agnes School, Atlantic Highlands, NJ (1967-1972) ; St. Francis International School, Rome, Italy (1975-1978); St. Joseph School (1978-1982), Gowanda, NY; St. Bernadette, Lancaster, OH (1972-1975) and St. Matthias School, Columbus, OH (1982-1985).
Sister Mary also served as Secretary of Holy Name Province (1985-1991) and Sts. Columba-Brigid Montessori School, Buffalo, NY (1999-2009). She was also a Pastoral Associate at St. James Parish, Woodbridge, NJ (1993-1996) and Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, Charleston, WV (1996-1999).
In 2010, Sister Mary began volunteering at Heart, Love & Soul Food Pantry and Francis Center in Niagara Falls, NY, as well as St. Joseph Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
Sister Mary moved to Stella Niagara in 2012, where she became a Hospitality Minister, joyfully welcoming visitors at the main entrance. She became a resident of the Stella Niagara Health Center in August 2015.
Sister Mary is survived by her sisters, Christine Reichmuth and Jean Lovell, as well as nieces and nephews, and her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.
She was predeceased by her sister, Lora DiMatteo and brother, Vincent DiLeone.
