Sister Mary Owen Doody, OSF of Stella Niagara, NY, passed away on December 23, 2020. Sister was born in Columbus, Ohio April 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Owen and Margaret (Brown) Doody.
Sister Owen entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara August 31, 1946 and was professed Aug. 18, 1949.
She received her Bachelor's degree in Education in 1963 from Rosary Hill College (Daemen), Buffalo, NY. Sister Owen was an educator. She taught at St. Joseph School, Gowanda, NY; St. Benedict School, Buffalo, NY; St. Agnes and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Schools, Atlantic Highlands, NJ; St. John, Holy Rosary and St. Anthony Schools, Columbus, Ohio; and St. Michael School, Worthington, Ohio, St. Vincent's Orphanage in Columbus, Ohio, and Mt. Aloysius in New Lexington, Ohio. She was also a Computer Enrichment Coordinator at St. Michael's.
Sister Owen retired from teaching in 2000. She moved to Stella Niagara in 2011. In April 2013, Sister Owen became a member of the Stella Niagara Health Center Community.
Sister Owen is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins and her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.
She was the sister of the late Robert Owen Doody, Gloria Dody and Joseph Anthony Doody.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 10AM at St. Joseph's Cathedral, 50 Franklin Street, Buffalo, NY 14202.
In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella, Niagara, 4421 Lower River Rd, Stella Niagara, NY, 14144.
