Sister Patricia Healy, OSF Obituary

Sister Patricia Healy, OSF , (formerly Sister Doreen) born in Buffalo, NY on March 14, 1930, died April 6, 2022 at the Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara, New York. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ann (McMahon) Healy.

Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of St. Francis September 4, 1949 and was professed August 18, 1952. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Rosary Hill (Daemen Univ.) College, Buffalo, NY in 1960, and a Master's in French from the University of Notre Dame in 1968. As she began her college studies, she also learned sewing and embroidery from Sister Hildetrudis at Stella Niagara. Her teaching career began at St. Benedict School, Buffalo, NY (1952-1955), while she resided at Sacred Heart Academy, Buffalo, NY. Ensuing assignments took her to Gowanda, NY (1955-1959), Greenville, SC, Charleston, WV (1959-1960) and prepared her for ministry in a newly-opened Mater Dei High School, New Monmouth, NJ (1961-1968, 1970-1973). Degree in hand from the Univ. of Notre Dame, Sister Patricia was assigned to be Novice Director at Stella Niagara (1968-1970).  She then resumed her teaching career at Sacred Heart Academy, Buffalo, NY until 1986.

Enriched by travel to Europe and Asia, and a desire to encourage student travel as a requisite for an educated population, Sister Patricia got involved in travel planning. She worked as a local travel consultant for Orchard Park Travel, Teruel Travel Service and Bison Travel Service from 1987-2001. Retiring in 2001, she continued to volunteer at Bison Travel Service.

In 1994, her great niece Morgan was born with spina bifeda. To assist Lynn and Mark Faulring, the Sisters of St. Francis approved a request to become a caretaker for Morgan and Joe, enabling Lynn to work at Mercy Hospital. Lynn was able to repay Sister Pat's dedication when her longtime friend, Sister Maria Pares was admitted to Hospice care.   In February 2017, Sister Pat moved to assisted living at the Stella Niagara Health Center.

Besides her parents, Sister Patricia was predeceased by three sisters: Geraldine (Thomas) Marriott, Mary Frances (Walter) Kaempf and Jean (William) Selmensberger.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, many close friends and her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.

Calling hours Friday, April 8, beginning at 6pm with a Prayer Service at 7pm Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, April 9 at 9:30am in the Sister's Chapel.
