Theodore C. Tonemah

Theodore C. Tonemah of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away on  Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital.   He was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma,  born in Lawton, OK, on June 10, 1938, the son of the late Harry and Roena [Asenap] Tonemah.

Mr. Tonemah grew up in Meers, OK and served with the US Army.

He worked with the Indian Health Services (IHS) for over 35 years before retiring in Shawnee, OK.  After retiring, he moved back to the Tuscarora Nation in 2001.

He loved spending time with his family,  especially his grandchildren and sitting on his porch.

Mr. Tonemah is survived by his wife of 61 years Donna E. [Woodbury] Tonemah, his children David C. (Victoria), Randall E., Beth M. (Michael) Dreadfulwater,  Lisa A., Darryl P. (Carminda), Gary J. and Loren P. (Jennifer) Tonemah, a brother Harry (Polly) Tonemah, also fifteen grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Stuart, Quannah, Alice Tonemah and Bess Yeahquo.

His family will be present on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.   Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the  Tuscarora Baptist Church, 2208 Mt. Hope Road, Sanborn, NY, with the Rev. Walter A. Printup, III officiating.

Interment in  Mt. Hope Cemetery, on Tuscarora Nation.
